WHAT
IS HOMOEOPATHY?
Homoeopathy is a complete system of medicine and is probably
the best known and most widely accepted of the complementary
therapies. Along with osteopathy, acupuncture, chiropractic
and herbal medicine, it has been included as one of the five
“Group One Therapies” (House of Lords’
Select Committee on Science and Technology 2000).
Homoeopathy uses a system of medical treatment that includes
a wide range of natural remedies to stimulate the body to
heal itself. It is based on sound, well researched philosophical
principles that focus on stimulating the body’s own
defense systems, thus enabling the body itself to start the
healing process (Society of Homeopaths). Homoeopathy can be
used along with conventional medicine.
The principles are founded on the work of Dr Samuel Hahnemann,
a medical doctor from the 18th century. He discovered "that
which can produce a set of symptoms in a healthy individual,
can treat a sick individual who is manifesting a similar set
of symptoms." This principle, like cures like, became
the first of a new medicinal approach to which he gave the
name “Homoeopathy”.
We give students the opportunity to build a firm foundation
based on Hahnemann’s principles of homoeopathy. These
principles include the following:
- Vital Force· Susceptibility
- Miasms
- Minimum Dose
- Direction of cure
- Law of similars
- Single remedy
- Provings – Materia Medica
- Succussion and Dilution
